About Me

Is this where I tell you how I hate bananas but I love kale Or that I prefer one on one conversations to large events? No [raises hands in confusion]. Well then, I guess this is where I get to talk all about me and it’s not considered completely narcissistic. I am 100% qualified to do that.

In all seriousness, creativity is my passion. It’s what makes me come alive. That’s why this website is Kelly Irene Creative because the word “photography” doesn’t include my entire creative heart, which is also equal parts creative art and writing. All of these expressions you will find here. Personally and professionally, I think the best picture I could paint for you is to share the creative moments that have defined me. When I was three, my first drawing was born when my mom caught me with a permanent marker drawing a stick figure family on the our apartment wall. When I was 10 years old, I was given my first journal and my writing career began. At 17 my dad gave me my first Canon camera and although it was later stolen, I never let it steal my dreams of becoming a photographer. The bottom line is creativity is not only about the photography and art I produce. It’s about the years of backstory, the process of growing through it and the courage to keep creating even when I’ve felt like a failure or imposter. It’s about the wrestling with the poems, the essays, the drawings, the paintings AND the hours of editing. It’s thinking about composition, emotion, and authenticity in each piece or photograph. Even more potently, it’s about the research I put into every project or photo session knowing I am giving my clients the best of me.

Whether it’s photography, art, or writing, I bring all of me to the table. I pour all of me into everything I do. This is very evident in all of my work. In the end, no matter what medium I’m working in, I am not afraid to compose work saturated with color or intense contrast. I’m not afraid of feeling my way through the mud & the mire. I am also not afraid to create beautiful things from hard, dark places. My bottom line is to find the beauty in it all.

In sum (for the linear people), I am: Taker of Images, Composer of Photographs, Writer of Essays, Sketcher of Drawings, Architect of Mediums, and Editor Extraordinaire

Hopefully, this is where you reach out to purchase a print, book a photoshoot or hire me to write an article for your publication. I believe you won’t be disappointed!
